Day 12 - And feeling better today

Tuesday:

35 minutes treadmill

Even though I could hardly open my eyes at 4:30, I got up and walked/jogged on the treadmill. Unfortunately I stayed tired all day long.

Food – Calories 1542

I upped the calories through the day. Then I’m up a lb this morning so I really hate that…… I have to NOT get on the scale until Friday.

No booze, nope, not a drop. Not going to either.

Increased my potassium intake to bring my minerals up

With all the sweating I do, I need to keep my minerals in check.

I couldn’t believe how tired I was yesterday and when you sit in front of two monitors all day looking at servers, consoles, spreadsheets, word documents, blah blah blah, it does not help in the keeping you awake department. I felt exhausted and I still didn’t get to bed until after 9:30 (was trying to catch up on some blogs). That makes for a very long day in my world.

However, I do feel much better today. I slept good, my hip didn’t bother me too much, and I was warm. One of the things I have noticed from doing the Hot Yoga is that afterwards, once I start cooling down, I really cool down. I need to wrap up and warm up. So I’ve been taking a warm bath on the Yoga evenings just to warm myself up before bed and then turn the heater on in my room to warm it up before I crawl under the sheets. I have to turn the heater off before I go to sleep or else it gets too hot to sleep (I do hate being too warm when I sleep), but I do like my body to stay warm – if that makes any sense.

Last night we went shopping and I got a new Yoga bag, mat, and some absorbent towels. Normally I carry a backpack filled with my “stuff”, then put my towels, yoga wear, brush, and strap my yoga mat to the back pack then walk to the bus, catch the train, haul it to work, then haul it  back on train, walk to Yoga studio at the end of the day. Well this new bag has enough room for all my clothes, towels, brush and the mat and weighs a LOT less than my packed backpack does. So now I’m back to carrying my purse (have to normally empty it into the backpack), and have the yoga bag slung over my shoulder. It was much more manageable on the train today.

I’m actually looking forward to going again today. It’s kind of funny how addictive it can become. I think it is because it is working out for me. I’m already noticing a difference in my flexibility in my hams, hips, and even my back feels stronger. In most of the 26 positions, you not only stretch your muscles but you tighten quite a few others to pull yourself into those positions so you are using almost all your muscles by the end of the 90 minutes. You are strength training at the same time you are doing flexibility poses. I think that is why it tires you out so much.

Here is a picture of the 26 poses, I can’t do 12 (they call it toe) at all, and have issues with my hip with 5, 11, & 20 (can’t do 20 either), and by the time we do pose 22, I can’t lean back or I get dizzy. However, it is getting better as well. Oh and 17 just about kills my elbows. You have to lie there with your palms facing down, so your elbows are under your body and you lift your legs… ha.. I have tennis elbow or Tendonitis and it hurts A LOT but again, it is getting easier as I couldn’t even lay my elbow out like that on the first day without a lot of pain, and on Monday I got my elbows under my body a bit. So each day it gets better.

And I bet you are tired of reading about Hot Yoga aren’t you J

I hope you are all having a FANTASTIC day and are making good choices.

  1. I really need to try this Hot Yoga you have been bragging about. I had never heard of it. In my defence I live under a rock..lol

I know exactly what you mean about wanting to be just warm enough.

    HAve a great day.

  2. What I can't believe is how many calories you are burning at Hot Yoga. I got a new Yoga DVD and wore my heart rate monitor to see if it was even worth tracking. Nope. I burn like 60 calories during a 55 minute session. So I just consider it "stretching" when I do it.

Step away from the scale and stay OFF!!

  3. I am enjoying your hot yoga updates! There is a studio three blocks from my house. I need to go.

  4. I am enjoying reading about hot yoga. I am living vicariously through you...:-) Thanks for posting the chart. I bet I there are several I could not do, but the idea of sweating up a storm is pretty appealing to me. Try not to get caught up in the scale, you are doing really well, esp on the booze.

  5. I cannot begin to tell you how important your potassium level is. And yes, stay off the scale until a week has gone by! I was so tempted all week long...I swear at times that scale screamed my name! I managed to avoid it, though. It's a big help to not see anything until a week because throughout the week, your weight goes up and down. Keep up the great work - all that working out will pay off in the end!

  6. Don't worry about that little gain on the scale; I'm sure that is a fluke. Only increasing your calories by a few hundred wouldn't cause that. You're doing great!
