I had an excellent workout day yesterday – more or less. I was looking forward to HOT Yoga and although the room was fairly Hot and humid, I’m pretty sure that was not my issue. Almost immediately I experienced a lot of dizziness so I couldn’t do a lot of the standing poses. It was weird. As soon as I stood to do them, the room would spin. I highly suspect that I was not hydrated enough. Even though I drank a TON of water throughout the day, I think that my Friday night debacle really put me back a lot of H20 in my system and that I truly am still recovering from it. I am not as young as I think I am and do not bounce back from them all nighters. K I drank water on Saturday, all day Sunday and yesterday, but I think my body was still low last night. Lesson learned (well maybe). I am going to go back Wednesday night and hopefully I’ll be fully recovered by then. I really do miss it.
My walk at lunch wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. We walked 5K and I did it a couple of minutes faster than last week’s lunch walk. I still averaged about 3.6mph and considering it is lunch and I don’t really want to have a fully shower before going back to work, I’m OK with that pace for now. Actually I’m happy with it.
But I have another concern right now and maybe dehydration is a factor in this, but my legs ache. Not muscle soreness ache, just ache. Restless kind of ache. I would really like to know what I can do to prevent this. Is there something nutritionally I can do? Having an Epson salt bath every night dries my skin out quite a bit, even if it does feel good. I’ve got some researching to do. If any of you have tried anything and it has been successful, let me know. I know more potassium/magnesium can help but not sure if I want to take anymore mag than I already do.
This morning I got up and did my 35 minutes on the treadmill. I did W4D1 of the C25K program. I struggled with the last 5 minute run. Again, could just be I’m too tired and a little bit of a dehydration issue.
If you haven’t heard, today is the day that Tony and Jen have their little competition out where they challenged each other to do something TODAY for 99 minutes and to get 200 other people to workout for 60 minutes. Tony will donate to a charity and Jen has got 220 folks lined up. It is easy for me to get involved in this because I already workout hard on Tuesdays so this morning, I took some pictures of my time/mileage and sweaty face to share tomorrow. I’ll see if I can bring my camera to the gym and capture those minutes as well but will see. My watch time (Polar workout session) might have to be enough proof J Have any of you opted in for this challenge today?
Went to an information session last night for the Kidney March I am doing in September with my daughter. They did a spiel on Kidney disease and a bit of what is going to happen during the walk. One of my biggest concerns is potty breaks. If I drink as much water as I am going to need to drink, I’m going to need to frequently stop. I’ve been concerned about it during my training session as I have been able to last about 1.5 hours before it is time to stop. And around the city, that can be challenging (more or less). I am however, finding some good routes that have porta potty’s available – just a matter of whether I would actually use them or not is the question. Anyway, they are going to have a “potty” station about every 2 miles – that’s about 10 stops during the day. I think I will be OK J I’m really looking forward to this event – not only is it a great cause, it will be personally challenging to get ready for it, to actually do it, but I think the friendships that can be made through this will last a lifetime. I’m looking forward to meeting others out there that like to walk as much as I do. I have to admit, it is a challenge for me to get my daughter going and out there to walk with me. “It’s BORING Mom”!! Oi Vey!
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC day!

pedometer for yesterday: 9785 (not many steps happening in Hot Yoga :) )
Potty stops every two miles will be plenty. Eventually what will happen is that you'll become dehydrated and won't even need to go. When I did my walking marathon in 2007 I only used the porta potty once! And I was drinking plenty.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the challenge on Tony's team. Will get in my 60 minutes tonight at Thai Boxing!
You're doing awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe leg aches might be due to stretching or rather lack thereof. I've got a bit of early arthritis and I HAVE to stretch in addition move if I want to keep moving without pain. Also, that restless feeling could be you getting used to being active. Deep Heat is always attractive, as well as Vicks vaporub. I heart them so. ;)
Betcha your daughter will one day love you so so so much for 'dragging' her on those 'boring' walks. It's good for her. And, more importantly it's good for your relationship to have time to talk.
once every 2 miles will probably be plenty. If it's not then think of how fast you will be going trying to get to the next potty place! :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear your report on wearing Vibrams on your vacation. Get ready for some odd looks and plenty of questions.
Crap! I got to get out there and get my 60 minutes in today...hmm..what to do what to do...
ReplyDeleteYou, btw, are doing just great!
I am still struggling thinking that hot yoga sounds like anything other than absolute torture. :-) Of course, I am the guy that rarely gets cold.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Steve on this one. Hot yoga wouldn't be my first choice.
ReplyDeleteTony and Jen's challenge was sure fun. I find these challenges are a huge motivator for me. I'm in fact challengeing my students next week. For every correct answer on the test Im doing a minute on the treadmill. Should be fun.
