We all know how important sleep is for your overall well being. It is when your body does all of it’s healing.
I’ve struggled for quite some time to get a good nights sleep for several reasons but the main reason is the pain I experience from my hips. I’m a side sleeper and laying on my sides causes me to be in considerable pain after awhile.
So, I went bed hunting in June, and laid on many beds on my side to see which might work for me. It is so hard to really tell in a store because you don’t really lie on them long enough to really determine if they will work or not.
And since I was about to move, the bed I ordered, I had it delivered after I moved (why move it twice). After watching the delivery guys trying to get this bed up the stairs, I’m very very glad we waited and had them deliver it.
I almost need a step ladder to get into it and it is a King size so I really feel like I’m sleeping alone as Mr. Sandra seems to be so far away. Honestly that works most nights in the summer when you get so hot….
Anyway, I slept in the bed for 2 weeks then went on vacation and slept on my trailer bed for 3 weeks. It is like going from a comfy cloud to a hard floor. 3 weeks on a harder mattress hurt my back. But I am back home and giving the new bed a try again.
Unfortunately I’m still in pain and I’ve concluded that I just won’t get rid of it and will have to try to get as good of sleep as I can. So I’ve been experimenting trying to get what sleep I do, as solid as I can.
Going to sleep is not an issue, I can fall asleep instantly. But staying asleep is another matter. I toss and turn, back and forth, all through the night.
I had turned my Fitbit on to sensitive tracking so that it will record all movement and this is what I see:

3hrs and 29minutes of actual sleep time. Not sure how accurate that is but some mornings it does not surprise me by how I feel. I’m just not getting enough sleep.
This is affecting my energy levels and my weight – I know it is.
So I bought some lavender scented stones and have them beside my bed and the last two nights I’ve rubbed almond oil (good omega absorption) and dabbed lavender on the bottom of my feet. And even though that picture above says I only slept 3h29m, I feel like I slept better. Much Much better!
So when I switched it to normal tracking, I saw this:

Last night I feel like I got 6 hours of sleep. Big difference between those two trackers but I KNOW some nights, the sensitive one is accurate and other nights like last night I know the normal one is correct. I had changed it to sensitive because just because I wasn’t moving didn’t necessarily mean I was asleep. I can lay there perfectly still and be wide awake.
Either way, I need to get more sleep than I do….
Solving the hip pain should become my number 1 priority…. Then I will sleep sounder/longer.
